Wednesdays are supposed to be boring, right?
Well, usually they are for me. I don't have much to do in terms of classes, don't have soccer practice. I realize that many people would die to have one day a week that's wide open like my Wednesdays. Not me
I need to stay busy, or I go crazy. This might be my coping mechanism for anxiety and stress, and if I sit around and do nothing all day you won't want to be around me.
Going to the gym has been a hobby of mine for a couple years now. It's a good way for me to stay healthy, both mentally and physically. Today I'll be hitting something called a push day. I rotate every day between different muscle groups in my body, just to keep me fresh. This is called the push pull leg split.
After huffing and puffing my way through the gym, it's time to refuel with some north end. Every single day, no matter what, I get me a breakfast burrito. I love burritos and I also love breakfast so.
I sit down to do homework and then continue to procrastinate for about an hour. Procrastinating is one of my favorite activities. You see, if I do my assignments ahead of schedule I just feel like I won't do as well on them. I need that pressure that comes with a fastly approaching deadline. That is my fuel.
After doing some of my work, a couple friends of mine invite me to go to the river. Now I usually decline this offer, as I've been to the river about a million times it feels like, and what's gonna be new this time? However, it is a boring Wednesday and I will do anything to get out of my room. I am so happy I decided to go, because we got to see one of the best sunsets I have seen. Like in my whole life.
After returning from the river, we play ping pong all night long. This is a nightly occurrence, as there is a ping pong table not even 20 feet from our dorm. I have gotten pretty dang good at it, after about a month of practice. Ping pong keeps my mind busy, and is a great way to exhaust myself before bed. If anyone ever wants the smoke, let me know because I truly believe I am the best player in the world.

I have my Tuesday's (almost) off this semester, and I agree, having the full day open can be somewhat frustrating after a while! I think I tend to waste the time I have open on those days, and usually just end up frustrated with myself for doing so. I think your blog gave a thorough depiction of your average Wednesday, and acts as a good reminder that working isn't the only way to stay busy.
ReplyDeleteThis is how I feel on my days off too...I look for a bunch of ways to fill the day so that I feel productive.
ReplyDeleteDavid, reading your blog about what goes on during your Wednesday was very fascinating to me because there were certain aspects of it that I found very relatable. I am kind of the same where I have to keep myself busy. But I also know how you feel when your friends want you to do something but you are conflicted, but you end up going and you realize you made the right decision. Your routine is something I admire because I am big into my routine as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of surprised you enjoy procrastinating. If I have work to do that I'm putting off, I can't fully enjoy whatever it is I'm doing because in the back of my head I'm thinking I should be doing my work right now. Although I agree that having the deadline pressure helps me complete assignments faster than without, I would prefer to do my work ahead of time. Usually doesn't happen though.
ReplyDeleteI get what you're saying about the procrastination thing, but I love the feeling of having all my assignments done ahead of time. I only have one class on Tuesday and Wednesday this semester so I know that feeling of trying to fill the day with activities. Sometimes even though having all that free time is what I look forward to when I'm busy, once it comes around I just look for things to do. I am definitely a person who likes to have some sort of structure to my day, so I relate to this post. We should play some ping pong sometime.
ReplyDeleteI like how my Wednesdays are the opposite. I have my two classes and then get punched with a night class. I agree with your feelings about the breakfast burrito. It is the best North End product, and it is still somewhat cheap (even after they raised all the prices >: | ). I unfortunately do not like procrastinating but finish my work so slowly that there is almost no point of me starting early sometimes if I can only juice the most work in the last days. I wish the McCormick building had the ping pong table because we have the half broken arcade machine.
ReplyDeleteHi David, Wednesdays for me are always wide open. I only have a 3:30 and a 6:30 class. This might be nice for some people, but I like to get my day started early. Even though I could sleep in, I still wake up around 8:00 AM, I am a morning person. I am like you where I need to stay busy having my whole morning with nothing to do will sometimes drive me crazy. I spend the day up until class to go to the gym and do laundry, and any other cleaning around the house. Cleaning is relaxing to me, yet it keeps me busy.
